Acton Networkers

About Us

Your Comments on This Section Are Welcome

ActonNetworkers is a secular job search networking and support group. Our goal is to help each other and, in doing so, shorten the transition time to a new position as much as possible.

Our thanks to St. Matthew's and initially to Revs. Bruce A. Pehrson and Richard Black (currently to Reverend Steve Garnaas-Holmes) for their continued support in providing meeting space for the group. In 2009, we expanded our location to accommodate the increase in our membership. We'd also like to thank initially Reverend Paul Clifford (currently to Reverend Richard E. Cannon) and the congregation at St John the Evangelist Parish in Hopkinton.

Member Profile: Members represent a spectrum of experience with no one dominant group. Current membership (Post 9/11 ~30, December 2004 ~500) is approximately 3300 (March 2020). Most members are at supervisory or management levels including senior executives. Professions include

  • Finance
  • Law

  • Human Resources

History: At approximately the same time two church-based groups dedicated to job search networking and support were begun, at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church and at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Concord. The St. Matthews group was the larger of the two and coined the name "ActonNetworkers". Both groups were secular in nature despite their association with their parish. In short order the two groups became aware of each other and began having monthly joint or general meetings.

Later in 2002 similar parish based networking groups began at St. Isidore's Roman Catholic Church in Stow, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Acton and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Parish, Sudbury. All are associated with ActonNetworkers and share membership. For lack of a critical mass, the groups at First Parish and Mt. Calvary no longer meet. Their membership continues their activity within ActonNetworkers.
